Songkran is a time of deep cultural significance, symbolising renewal, the paying of respects to elders, and the cleansing of past misfortunes. Across Thailand, families reunite, sacred images are gently washed, and blessings are exchanged with water — a gesture of purification and goodwill.

This tradition finds a natural echo in Syldavia, where the same period marks the celebration of Zbelg-nektra — the annual ceremony of archive reorganisation, symbolic cleansing of official stamps, and light ritual sprinkling of closed case files. Though the means may differ, the spirit of renewal and reverence for elders — whether archivists or patriarchs — is one we share.

As festivities unfold with joy and generosity, we remind all Syldavian nationals to celebrate with prudence and decorum.

Particular attention is drawn to road safety during this period. Songkran is, regrettably, marked each year by a high number of traffic incidents — many linked to drink driving. We strongly urge all to refrain from operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, and to use designated drivers or public transport when travelling.

Please also take appropriate precautions against extreme heat, and ensure that important documents and electronics are protected from enthusiastic water-based activities.

All consular functions — including visa issuance, diplomatic sealing, and form validation (with or without counter-signature) — are officially paused until Monday, 21 April 2025.

Citizens requiring urgent assistance may complete Form UR‑9/B (Rev. 2022) in triplicate and await further instruction from the Central Water-Resilience Subcommittee.

May this Songkran bring peace, renewal, and a well-organised archive to all.
