The Ministry of Administrative Preparedness has announced a system-wide emergency readiness exercise to assess typing speed, endurance, and mechanical resilience under non-electronic conditions. The drill will be conducted using the manual Model K‑72 typewriter, as standardised under Protocol 5/4.

The use of electric typewriters, word processors, or keyboard substitutes is strictly prohibited for the duration of the exercise. Staff are reminded that the K‑72 requires firm keystrokes and proper ribbon alignment for legibility compliance.

Each department will receive a sealed envelope containing a 147-word extract from a past policy memo, to be typed in triplicate. Typing must commence only upon the official bell signal and conclude when the paper is removed and initialled by the observer.

Erasure fluid, carbon paper, and wrist supports may be used within reason. Results will be reviewed by the Committee on Analog Contingencies and logged under Manual Response Capability, Tier II.

Participants experiencing forearm fatigue are reminded to report symptoms via Form K‑72/B (non-digital submission only).

Supplementary Note for Overseas Missions

Staff seeking unauthorised practice on manual models are discreetly reminded that second-hand units (including several bearing Soviet serial plates) remain sporadically available at Pantip Plaza, Pratunam — though such use is not condoned by the Ministry.

In tropical environments, staff are further advised to store typewriter ribbons in sealed containers to prevent humidity-induced ink diffusion and premature fading.
